2008-09-16

Rezidor does television: On September 20, the hotel group will be featured on CNBC World, CNBC Europe and CNBC Asia Pacific – reaching more than 270 million homes with an episode of the “Responsible Business Television Series” produced in partnership with the UN Global Compact and the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP. “Responsible Business Television Series” takes a look at some of the most pressing global challenges like the water crisis, climate change and extreme poverty. It highlights companies around the world with outstanding corporate responsibility initiatives, shows business and development working hand-in-hand, and also demonstrates how small ideas can make big differences in our life.

Besides “co-stars” such as British Telecom, Nokia Siemens Network, HP and Intel, Rezidor was invited to participate in the 13-episodes-series on the basis of its Responsible Business credentials. “We are proud to be part of this global project”, says Catherine Rubbens, Director Responsible Business of Rezidor. “Awareness of environmental and social issues and the corresponding impacts is an integral part of our daily work. Since 2001, we have a dedicated Responsible Business Programme in place which applies to all hotels of our five brands in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.” Under the headline “The role of Business in Reversing Climate Change”, this unique programme is presented by the example of two Radisson SAS Hotels:
The Radisson SAS Hotel Edinburgh in Scotland is leading the way in the UK in reducing its carbon footprint – through significant electricity savings, stringent waste sorting & recycling and local purchasing. The hotel which has its own Responsible Business Manager also organizes climate friendly meetings & events, and offers each guest the possibility to fully offset the CO2 emissions related to his stay through the corporate loyalty programme “goldpoints plus”.
At the Radisson SAS Resort El Quseir in Egypt, solar based solutions are behind many of the property’s initiatives combating climate change. The hotel also works closely with the local community to address environmental concerns and social issues: In addition to regular clean ups of the surrounding desert area and support to the local medical charity the resort has its own Development Centre where complimentary language and vocational courses are offered to both staff and the local community.

“The Responsible Business Television Series means even more recognition and motivation not just for these hotels but all our properties”, comments Catherine Rubbens. “We are already working, and look forward, to further develop our company wide engagement as corporate responsibility has become a fundamental to the way we do business and make a positive contribution to the global community.”
